Carpet Recycling
At ProFloors we are committed to doing our part in keeping as much carpet, pad, vinyl, and other materials out of landfills as we can. We are proud to be a part of the Carpet America Recovery Effort, also known as CARE.
Carpet America Recovery Effort is a nationwide program to spare our landfills of as much carpet waste as possible. BILLIONS of pounds are diverted every year. Old carpet and vinyl is sent to future thinking businesses that use the waste to produce new products. Your old carpet could be recycled into new carpet, building materials, insulation, signs, and hundreds of plastic products.
Our ProFloors installers are instructed to always load up the old materials they have ripped out and return to our warehouses with it. The only exception is in cases of bed bug infestation, in which case we bag that material and discard it at approved sites.
Back at our warehouses we separate the carpet and the pad. We have so many jobs that each week we are able to fill a semi truck with the used carpet and another with used pad!
Carpet will be taken to recycling centers where the latex backing will be melted away from the carpet fibers. The fibers and latex/PVC will be used in new carpet or other products.
Because pad is often ripped in pieces, we take the used pad and put it into a baler to bundle it. This makes it easier for transport to the recycling centers. The recycler then takes it back, sterilizes it, sorts it, mixes it with other types of foam and makes new rebond cushion with it. Foam is a product that would never decompose in a landfill, so it's important to keep as much out as possible.
